aBOUT ROB
Rob and Liz met while attending William Paterson University in 1989. In 1992, they welcomed their son, Robbie Jr., into the world and began building their life together in their home in Kinnelon, NJ. Rob adored his son and cherished every moment they spent together. As a family, they loved spending time at the Jersey Shore, watching sports, working in the yard, and simply enjoying quality time together.
Some of Rob’s happiest memories were made at the Napoletano’s home at the Shore in Point Pleasant Beach and during vacations with the Loewrigkeit’s in Lake George, NY.
Rob loved all sports, but baseball held a special place in his heart. Some of his best times were spent playing for Wayne Valley, the William Paterson Pioneers, and The Wayne A’s where he considered his teammates an extension of his family. He was also a devoted New York Giants fan and was fortunate enough to see them win two Super Bowls during his lifetime. When Rob became ill, his hero, Phil Simms, sent him a personalized autographed photograph that he treasured. In early 1997, despite his declining health, Rob had the opportunity to attend Super Bowl XXXI in New Orleans. Although he was very sick, he never complained and embraced the experience. It became one of the most memorable and cherished moments of his life.
Landscaping was another of Rob’s passions. He founded Pioneer Landscaping, a successful business of which he was incredibly proud. One of his greatest accomplishments was designing and planting the landscape at our home. What made the project even more special was that family and friends came together to help bring his vision to life, turning it into a joyful celebration of friendship, love, and determination. The horse in our foundation’s logo represents the Pioneer Landscaping logo Rob helped create.
About this picture: One of my most powerful memories of Rob came on the day we learned that none of the treatments had worked and that there would be no cure. Heartbroken, I looked at him and asked, “What are we going to do now?” With the strength, courage, and perspective that defined him, he looked at me and said, “I don’t know about tomorrow, but today I’m taking my son fishing.”
That day, Robbie Jr. caught a fish (they threw it back).
This photograph from that day captures a moment I will treasure forever. Looking at their smiles, you would never know it was one of the most difficult days of our lives. For Rob, it became one of his proudest and happiest days. When facing challenges, I look at that picture and remind myself of the lesson Rob taught me: every day is a good day if you choose to make it one.
